About David

David J. Campbell is a professional cellist based in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and working regularly in New York City. Born in Toronto, Canada, he is renowned for both his international performance career and his track record of producing exceptional students.

Over nearly two decades, David has performed, taught, and recorded across five continents — from Shanghai to Sydney, London to Tokyo, Los Angeles to New York. His appearances include world-class venues such as Taipei's National Theater and Concert Hall, San Francisco's SFJazz Center, Chicago's Orchestra Hall, and New York City’s Lincoln Center. His work spans classical, jazz, pop, and contemporary genres, collaborating with leading artists in each field.

David is the recipient of an official Grammy® certificate for participation in a Grammy Award-winning album, and is also credited on a Grammy-nominated live performance recording. He has recorded and composed for multiple feature films, with his most recent project, Space Cadet, premiering at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, where David is credited both as performer and contributing composer.

As an educator, David has guided numerous students into university music schools and competitive pre-college programs, including multiple successful placements in All-State Orchestras. His track record reflects not only technical mastery, but an ability to prepare young musicians to excel in high-stakes auditions and thrive in demanding academic settings.

He holds Doctoral and Master’s degrees in Music specializing in Performance and Pedagogy, as well as an Honors Bachelor’s degree in Music. David met his wife while living and working in New York City, and the couple later chose to settle in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, to be close to family as they began raising their two children. He continues to work regularly in New York City while maintaining an active teaching studio in Lancaster.

He performs exclusively on a pair of Wayne Burak cellos, strung with Thomastik-Infeld Versum strings.
